What is the good way to name drives? By manufacturer, by content, by drive type or what...? What is your way?
Might be a little stupid questions, but anyway...

To each his own. If I name at all, I name partitions after the use. The name of the OS intended for the partition for instance. Descriptive terms are best because drive letters can, and sometimes do, change. If you need to format a partition and you aren't sure which one it can be a pain. I also usually make up a list of which partition has what on it and what the partition size is. I have a home made TIVO that has three drives in it each with a different OS on it. There are a total of 8 partitions in that computer. Can really get confusing. Especially when booting to Win98. The drive letters are all different because Win98 doesn't even see the NTFS partitions used by 2000 & XP.
BTW, I don't consider it a stupid question.

On my main computer I currently have two drives:
Drive 1/partition 1"Windows XP" is where windows is installed as well as what I consider my "standard" programs: office, anti-virus, ewtc.
Drive 1/Partition 2: "Programs" is where I install the bulk of my programs
Drive 2: "Data" - this is where I store all the data: images, music, video files that I am editing, etc. If a program uses a lot of data nad I can change where it is stored I will change that location to here. I will also backup an image of the OS partition to this drive.

I name my drives after the computer they are on. So if I have two hard drives on computer "Miragent3" they are named "miragent3A" and "miragent3B".
The names of my computers are Peary, Arachne4, Miragent3, and Rainbow.
