My toshiba 2405-s201 when booted, screen flash then black.

Specs: Windows XP
When I turn on my Toshiba laptop 2405-S201 the monitor screen has a light flash then turns black. My laptop sometime complete booting and I hear windows open but the desktop never appears. I just manually turned it off and I heard windows XP close. I have tried pressing Fn and F1 and then Fn and F5 simultaneously with no results. The computer will accept my password when I log on and nothing shows on the monitor.

Before this problem occurred the screen would become distorted, shivering or shaking lined would appear. Other times this situation did not occur but then it failed to display.

"will accept my password when I log on"

Always worth checking the monitor as already given.
However, if the password screen comes on that gives a certain amount of confidence in the monitor. Display module (or card) seems more likely.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
