my sound isn't working

well my computer was recently having some problems. but now my sound just won't work. and i can't for the life of me get my volume icon back on the bottom right side of my screen because its says inactive. i can't find a device. but i have speakers plugged in to my hard drive.

If you go under control panel click on "Sound and Audio Devices" Under the first tab you should see an option to put the icon in your task tray. Also you can check your settings as well.

I've did that some things have volume and others don't. my control panel says there is no device found

That means it is not installed. If it is installed and has a yellow (!) then it is installed but not working properly and or needs new drivers. I would reseed the card and run a hardware scan again see if it brings back up.
