My sound is all kinds of messed up. HELP ME!

June 13, 2009 at 19:16:34
Specs: Windows Vista
I Went to do some quick recordings of some music I wrote, I plugged my amp into the mic input on my computer (something I have done before with XP) and not only did it sound like crap but my sound after a few seconds stopped working and all I got was this popping sound. I had to restart my computer to make it stop but now I have no sound at all. and to make things more frustrating is that it now thinks that I constantly have somethig plugged into the blue port in the back, and is ready to recored. If anyone knows of anyway to fix this sound issue I would be very happy. I don't even care about recording any more.

Please help me.

Replace the soundcard or motherboard if it is onboard sound. You have fried the soundcard by plugging an amplified output into a MIC socket instead of the Line-In socket.

When you say blue port is that the port you've been referring to as "mic" port?

If so, you may be in luck as this is the 'Line In' port. There may be no physical damge in that case. You could try a complete removal and reinstall of your soundcard drivers (rebooting between removing the current and reisntalling). While you're in the process it'd be worth checking online for an updated driver if one's available.

If however, you had the amp connected to the pink port (the actual 'Mic In') then Richard59 is correct. There could be damage to your sound chip.
