My sony vaio vgn-nr385e turns off unexpected

Specs: Windows Vista
I have a sony vgn-nr385e and with out warning the computer turns off. It does not shut down as though it has a low battery, it just turns off. Over the past 6 months or so I have had porblems with the battery life. It went from 1 - 1 1/2 hours to 5 minutes now. I contacted sony and they planned vista. Sony said that it has something to do with the recent update from vista that killed the battery life and they were aware of it and trying to solve this issue. (although my issue wasn't solved, I have a bad battery now). So I am trying to figure out why it is turning off. Thanks for any help and advice.

Similar problem with three long-life batteries on my one-year-old Sony Vaio VGN-Z93HS. Seems somehow related to the contacts; that is, on these batteries (but not on others), when the battery goes below about 75% power, it'll simply shut off (without shutdown) without warning, *unless* I hold the battery into the computer tightly. I.e. it's as if a slightly-worn-out battery *combines* with a slightly-worn-out contact. Weird. Not bothering to contact Sony--I rarely find customer service helps with these things (unles within warranty, which it's not).
