everything was working fine until last night window's was detecting my second hard drive and I could save on it and get what i saved off of it. I reinstalled quick books over itself and then the problems began. The computer took forever to boot up (after numerous restarts and trying to go into safemode and freezing at the window's XP logo screen and restarting my com numerous times, I just turned it off for a few mins.) After that it finally booted up into windows i could uninstall quick books but i also noticed that my second hard drive was not there. After i notice that my second hard drive was not there i went into bios and it didn't see it. I clicked for it to auto search for it and it found it. I then went into windows and opened up my computer and still no second hard drive. It is in device manager and working properly. I uninstalled it in device manager and rebooted my computer. Upon reboot my computer found the hard drive and installed it again, but in my computer it is still not there. When I go to disk management it does not see the second hard drive... And everything happend when I tried to unstall quick books.

Try re-installing windows. It also may be a sign of your hard drive going bad?

I agree with the windows reinstall.

It could also be a breakdown of the IDE connector on the motherboard. Was it set to slave on the same IDE port? If so this will NOT be the problem and it may just be the drive dying as chuck said.

Keep the motherboard in mind as a source of problems.

could be a sign that your second HDD is going south too.
easiest way to check... with the sys case open, power up the sys and LISTEN to see if you can hear the drive spinning up. if it doesn't spin up... well... we all know the rest.
if it does spin up, and your sys still can't recognize it when windows is running, try getting a Drive checker from the HDD manuf.
if that says the drive is fine, keep pluggin on...

let us know

i have heard if you put it in the deep freeze
for several hours you might get it to work for a little while.
