My SATA II throughput look low?

Asus P7p55d deluxe desktop board

Specs: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, 2.891 GHz / 2045 MB
I am running one of the newer Western Digital Black WD1002FAEX 1TB SATA III disks, in AHCI (non-RAID) mode. I have an Asus P7P55D Deluxe main, that supports SATA II.

The throughput, according to HD Tach - burst = 248.9 MB/s and avg read = 108.5 MB/s.

Is this low for SATA II?

Other goodies: i5-760 @ 2.9GHz, 4GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600 physical memory.

A SATA II interface can transfer data at over 300MB/sec. But your actual performance will also be limited by the drive characteristics, which will usually be significantly less than that. Your average read might be 108.5MB/sec as measured by a benchmark program but in real world performance you won't achieve anything near that.

I would expect you performance is typical for your drive.

I upgraded to the same WD Black drive after my Seagate died.

Your HDTach scores are pretty much the same as mine:
Burst: 252.5MB/sec
Avg read: 107.1MB/sec

using the nForce4 SATA II controller and the Microsoft driver included w/ Win7.
