My Power Supply Blew Up!
Name: John A. Lee Date: December 2, 2006 at 06:45:31 Pacific OS: Windows XP CPU/Ram: 2GB
Comment:
I accidentally turned on my computer without switching the voltage to 220v (I recently moved to Korea)...and the power supply blew up. Will this have any effect on my motherboard or any other piece of hardware inside my computer?

Yes - it could well have done, unfortunately.
You'll have to replace the PSU and see, I'm afraid!

The last time I had a PSU blow, it did take out the mobo.... had to replace it along with the psu.
You MAY get lucky however... the 220/110 switch is located on the primary side of the psu... hopefully the primary side blew out before passing a spike on to the secondary side.

Is there a way I can tell if the mobo is gone? There are no distinguishable marks on it.

if there are no burn marks anywhere, then the only way to tell is to put a new psu on it and try it.
