My PC won`t shut down!

My PC won`t shut itself off. Ever since I bought the PC, whenever I shut it down, it doesn`t turn itself off. It stays on with the message 'PC ready to turn off'. I have to hold the off button for 5-6 seconds to turn it off. I have tried looking in the bios settings and they seem correct. Please help!

It is because you have a AT motherboard instead of a ATX motherboard. AT mothersboard dont shut it self down. Instead it gives a message that it is safe to turn of the computer. AT is very old.

I had the same problem with Windows 2000. The following solved the problem.
Go into the Bios and make sure Advanced Power Management (APM) is enabled. Boot into Windows and enter the Control panel. Then go into - Power Options - APM Tab - Tick enable Advance Power Management.
