Reply: (edit)well when the computer was not completely dead and i could get into DOS, i tried reinstalling windows. the computer would freeze in the middle of setup and i would have to turn it off. i was wondering if it might be the mobo or the hd. any insight would be very much appreciated

Reply: (edit)Have you ever opened up a PC before and *tinkered* around inside? From the info and nature of your description, i dont believe you have. I could be wrong thou. If you have never worked on a PC before. then you might need to shell out a few dollars to learn here. its not that bad thou. lets start with Rimfire's response. Is there any beeps, let us know. If not( and i think not) you need the recovery CD or whatever Operating system CD you have. let us know.

Reply: (edit)"well when the computer was not completely dead and i could get into DOS, i tried reinstalling windows. the computer would freeze in the middle of setup and i would have to turn it off" Is this after a format of the HD? If you didn't reformat and you think you have a virus, then reformat and try again. However, if the computer does not power up at all it could be a lot of different things. As rimfire stated are there any beeps? When all else fails beat the $%!* out of it!!!
