Specs: Windows XP, 1500
Something very strange is happening with my pic. When you click one icon several others flash and one 4icons away, opens up! When you succeed in opening a webpage and you click on FILE, the cursor runs through all the other items such as edit, view, messages, etc. and you can't stop it. Worst of all is when you try typing a sentence, the letters rub from right to left, iow backwards! It's crazy.

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

✔ Best Answer
It sounds like one or more of your keyboard keys may be stuck down or faulty (especially modifier keys like "Shift" "Ctrl" or "Alt".

Try a different keyboard to test this possibility.

If new keyboard makes no difference, do a fresh Windows install but back up your data first.

After testing another keyboard, try/borrow another mouse & test.

I have tried to do a clean install but it seems my DVD player is not seen as the start-up program just ignores the OS disk. I will try a different keyboard and mouse. Thanks

If you get the keyboard and mouse working you might care to first try System Restore to a time before the problem came along. This will not affect your own stuff.

The CD/DVD drive is probably not being seen because the system drive is seen first. You have to set the disk drive ahead of the system drive in BIOS.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks to all of you. It turned out to be the keyboard. I really find this thing of choosing the best answer very irritating since all of you contributed one way or the other. Many thanks again.
