Specs: Windows XP
I had the dreaded Blue Screen. Had to reformat and then use my Backup CD...DELL 9100 running windows XP Home edition. Worked pretty good. Got to the net and started downloading drivers, updates, etc.. It loaded SP3 and when I rebooted it went to my login screen. My mouse and keyboard are frozen??? I tried rebooting in Safe Mode, etc., etc.. No Go!!!

You may have installed the wrong drivers.

Why aren't you restoring from the Dell disks or from the hidden hard drive partition. All the required drives should be on there already.

I purchased this system in 2005....DELL did NOT send any disks with it. At that time, they suggested I/we create a CD and name it Windows OP.SYSTEM Backup CD...DELL OS RECOVERY CD. Also, I did not know there was a hidden hard drive. I tried to use my Recovery CD a number of times before I decided to reformat (hope that is correct term). It would copy everything from the CD but when it rebooted, it went right to the BLUE screen again. Soooo I wiped everything out, put my recovery CD in and that seemed to get me going. I even had access to he net. So I started looking for the drivers. One more thing. Just prior to booting after SP3 downloaded, I created a logon screen for my wife (as we had before).

Go to the link below and enter the service tag number off your laptop to gain access to the correct drivers and manuals.

Read your manual to learn how to restore to factory state by using the hidden partition. It may still be there, depending on HOW you wiped the drive.
