My monitor doesn't work

October 15, 2010 at 13:40:52
Specs: Windows XP
My work monitor isn't working. It starts up with all the regular computer stuff. BTW, I'm no computer expert. After it gets that far, the screen turns black. It doesn't shut down but just turns black. The green light is lit showing me that the monitor has power. For the last 2 days we've had a hard time shutting the computer down at the end of the day. I even tried running it in safe mode and the same thing is happening. Once I click safe mode, it goes black. I checked all the cords and everything seems to be fine. My boss is cheap so I'm trying to at least pinpoint the problem before we have to call in a tech. I'm running XP if that matters. Please help. Thanks

Take a known functioning monitor and hook it up to the computer and see if the problem still persists. If so it's something on the computer end, if not you've got yourself a faulty monitor.

We did hook up one of my employee's monitors and the problem was still there. Does it sound like a vga card? Someone mentioned that but I'm not so sure what it does or is.
