Specs: Windows Vista
I have a Compaq F700 laptop. Whenever I push the turn-on button the light go on and the CPU fan starts running and after only 1 or 2 seconds everything shuts down. When I try to turn it on again the same thing happens and the computer turns on but for only 1 or 2 seconds and then it shuts down.

Another quality motherboard (not) brought to you buy HP (HP & Compaq are the same company): http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/17/...

I'm afraid, w/o looking at your system, the chances are very high it's a bad motherboard.

Just another stupid saying...

I have thought about it, too. I just wanted to see whether there could be anything else. The funny thing is that if I try to turn the laptop on after 20 or 30 trials it comes on stays on until I shut it down again. Then I have to go through the same process.

....well...I have a nc6000 HP craptop here that only powers on if I press hard on the deck of the laptop while powering it on (Maxim 1987 chip issue).

There are all sorts of small micro fissure circuitry issues with motherboards, especially with HP laptops lately it seems (per the first link in response #1). Sometimes REFLOWING works to solve these issues, but that requires pulling the motherboard, reflowing the bad components or doing other component level repair on the motherboard, putting it back in the chassis and testing it (hopefully thoroughly).

If it doesn't work ALL the time EVERY time and if the circuits do not stay open & energized ALL the time, what good is it? Ah yes...a paperweight...?

Just another stupid saying...
