My laptop doesn't recognize CD Rom

I've been using Toshiba Satellite 1805 for a year and a half now. Suddenly, my laptop doesn't recognize CD/DVD ROM. 'My Computer', device manager, or any other tools do not display CD/DVD ROM as installed. I ran a virus check, and used system restore, but it doesn't work...
I don't hear any spinning sound, but the yellow light on CD/DVD ROM keeps flickering as if it's trying to access something. I cannot play a music CD, either. Should I take it to a repair store? Thank you very much for your feedback in advance.

it could be problem with the drive itself. If this is a "swapable" or removable drive, try using an electronics cleaner on the pins or socket of the drive and plug it back in. You could also check the bios setup to make sure the drive is enabled, perhaps the CMOS was lost?If this is a fixed drive, it may be best to simply take it in to someone qualified person to work on it. Is the laptop still under warranty? Good Luck.
