my labtop cannot be formatted

Specs: Windows XP
I cannot format my labtop. I have window XP but when starting formating it reaches the final stage but when finishing the screen turns black and you only can see the cursor in the screen. I've waited 3 hour and nothing happen. What should I do to solve this problem out?.

From the limited information your posted I would guess your problem is WinXP can't natively configure SATA hard drives. You need to supply the SATA controller drivers. Either at the very beginning of the XP installation by way of a floppy disk or by slipstreaming the drivers into the files on your WinXP CD. You can use nliteos to perform the slipstream. Get nliteos at the link below. Get the SATA drivers from the laptop manufacturer's site.

You can also slipstream SP3 at the same time.
