Subject: My games dont work after adding RAM
Comment:

Ive recently upgradedthe RAM on my system to the maximum 512mb (which is permissible in accordance with my PC manual), and now my games dont function properly-I get garbled images on screen, or the games just freeze. I have a 64mb Hercules Kyro 4000XT PCI graphics card installed also, and I think this is the root of the problem, as when this is disabled, the games will run ok, but obviously I want them to run with this as I want better quality graphics! My manual stated that to install 512mb I must put in two 256mb DIMMS in the two available memory slots on my motherboard, which is exactly what I have done. The BIOS setup program recognizes that there is 512mb installed, so there isnt a problem in this regard, it's just that there seems to be a conflict between the graphics card and the newly-installed RAM. I upgraded my RAM last month from the original 128mb to 256mb (with this same graphics card installed) and everything was fine, its only now I've come to increase it to 512mb that Im having this problem. I dont understand why this is, and I've tried lowering the acceleration of the graphics card in the display settings (on Windows XP), but this doesnt help. Could anyone suggest a way I can resolve this, as I dont want to have to stop using my graphics card. Thanks.

are they bolth the same brand and model ram? if the 2 sticks are the same your less likely to run in to problems. yes you can mix and match but i seem to run in to more problems that way. also make sure there the same speed. i had to adjust the clock speed on my pc133 ram to pc100 speed so it would work with the old stick in there when i added more.

Hi, yes, the two DIMMS I installed were identical in all three respects; model, brand & speed..and like I said, the games worked perfectly fine with the new memory installed and without my graphics card enabled, but obviously the quality of the graphics had to be sacrificed due to this-I have always had my graphics card enabled when running games on my PC and this is why Im frustrated that the games wont function properly WITH the graphics card now that I've increased the RAM to 512mb. Theres something that the graphics card doesn't like about the newly-added portion of memory, but I haven't a clue what it is! I just get a bizarre pattern on the screen and everything slows down, or the whole screen just goes black & doesnt give any kind of error message.

Maybe you can see if you can update your drivers for your g-card. Also, check windows's or your mobo update, maybe there's updates that you can get to fix the problem.
