my fan is not working

Specs: Windows Vista
Hi I have had my laptop for 2 and a half years and it has an overheating problem. It started to switch off. I discovered now that the fan has stopped working. What should i do and what is wrong with my laptop?

Offer the past 2.5 yrs, have you ever blown the dust out of the cooling vents? If not, your fan is either so dust clogged that it can no longer spin freely, or the dust got into the fan bearing & it ceased it up. Either way, you're going to have to get at that fan to see what's going on with it. I suppose you can try giving a good shot of compressed air into the vents & see what blows out the other side?
