Solved my dvd drive will not read dvd's anymore

Specs: Windows 7 64b, toshiba satellite/3GB
i can still burn dvd's and burn and listen to cd's, but if I put a dvd in my drive to watch or rip it, it will not read it, wondered if it is a driver or the drive itself is messed up, device manager says nothing is wrong, and driver updates are fine, please help

You could try a restore point to a time when it worked to test but I doubt that will help.

Try booting to a recovery dvd to see if it can be used.

I suspect the drive is bad. Burn led is not the same as read led or even read circuit.

Hi Dj, have you tried cleaning the drive?

here in the UK, cleaning kits can be found in the cheapo stores for around £1.

The kits with the liquid suppllied are best. Also make sure the kit is for CD and DVD (or DVD) not just CD.

Please advise back on progress.

i'm get the cleaning kit tommorrow, @mortneff, tried the restore point, didn't work, what do u mea reboot to recovery, restart with the recovery disc in the drive?
