Comment:

My DVD drive and CD drive have stopped working and even going back to a previous restore point didn't help, neither did unistalling and reinstalling them. This is the current error I'm getting:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I did use a program to fix issues including the registry but I used System Restore beforehand. Is there anyway to get these devices working with an entire reinstall of Windows?

You can use the XP repair option, then all you lose are the critical updates, that is if you have the XP install disc. It will not work with restoration discs.

A registry problem should have been fixed by doing a System restore to a date prior to when the problem surfaced. Have you tried an earlier one then the one you tried?

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

I went to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article and it was for Windows 2000 so I went to the Windows Xp one and it talked about upper and lower filters, what are they and how can I tell what ones are either one? I tried deleting some of what it mentioned and the it couldn't all be deleted.
