Specs: Windows XP, 1.5ghz/992ram
my optiplex 325 dell desktop computer freezes while it's booting up - it freezes while reading the first 3rd of the bios (version 1.1.12). I'm using windows XP SP3 (32bit). It only freezes if my HP Photosmart 2575 all-in-one (printer, scanner, copier) is plugged in via usb at time of startup. If i plug it into the cpu after my desktop appears, it works ok - although i have been unable to activate its sharing features so that other remote computers can print on the same printer.

sounds like you might have your bios set up to boot usb devices before it boots an optical drive or the hard drive. You might want to get into the bios and check your boot order. Make sure either the cd or the hard drive are first in the list.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help. I'll do some research to learn where i can control the sequence of what is read first when the computer is starting up.
