Comment:

When i press the power button nothing happens.
I know the plug ok because the light on the montor is on.
I've had the cover off and checked all wire's and switchs etc but no luck.
(I think it may be the power supply or Motherboard from what i read here)
Anyone has any advice it would be appreciated. Plus whether I should fix it myself or take it into a shop.
Thanks.

if you doubt, take it to a shop, or a friend or 12 year old kid

unplug everything from the back, open the case, then take each card out one at the time and put it back in, insure a good solid connection
if there is absolutely no power, when you hit the power button watch the fan on the processor, if it even TWITCHES a little! it is the processor, if it doesn't move at all chances are it's the power supply, replace that first

No necessarily so. Anything that casues the power supply to switch itself of immediately after starting can cause the CPU fan to twitch. A short circuit will do it. Faulty RAM will do it. On some BIOS switching the main power switch at the back can cause the CPU fan to twitch.

There can be many causes for a total failure to start. If the computer was working perfectly before and suddenly stopped working the power supply is the first thing to check and the most likely culprit. The easiest way to prove it is to try the power supply on known good computer.

If you really want to dig in and do some trouble shooting ...
Remove all the cards except the video card. Disconnect all the drives (signal and power). If you still do not get a display and no beep. You have isolated the problem down to the power supply, motherboard or CPU. Then it becomes `swapping' time.
