Specs: Windows xp
hi, my computer wont start up and has a bad file allocation table drive c:. i have tried booting with the recovery and system disks but still comes up with bad fat drive c: and goes to dos. i can get to the restore function from there by E: restore.exe but cant or dont know how to get anywhere from there it wants me to find a .gho file for it. Do i need to make a ghost file? if so how do i go about this?. i dont need or want anything on the disks i just want to start again. the recovery disks use windows98.

Your master boot record (MBR) is corrupted. Why are you using Win98 disks if you have WinXP?
