Subject: My computer wont start up normal!!!OS: Windows XPCPU/Ram: P3 800/128MB |
Comment: its been working real smooth... until 2 days ago. When i started my computer, it wont even get to BIOS. it just remained blank... then i had to press the power button to shut it. then i restarted it, and when it was booting, the screen went blank, and the HDD bulb on my computer stayed flashing. the CD ROM also wasnt responding, and it made small ticking sound in it... nothing was responding except the power button. i kept restarting and restarting, tried pulling the plug, shutting down all things that use electric except the PC, popping in a disk in the CD ROM, until it went normal... it is 4 years old. please help the desperate man :(

Reply: (edit)Could be a number of things but a failed powersupply is a likely first suspect. In the 4 years you've had the unit have you ever opened it up to clean out the dust? Accumulated crud can also cause overheating that leads to CPU failure. I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Reply: (edit)I wouold first suspect a controller issue caused by the "clicking" cd rom. Why not unplug it and tru starting up. if it isn't that then I would next go to the power supply.
