My computer speakers will not work randomly

Specs: Windows XP, Unknown
Hi, a couple days ago, one night, I went to eat dinner upstairs, and that night the sound was working fine. When I came back downstairs 10 minutes later, the sound was not working at all! I have a Super Woofer Focus Fos-001 Speaker, and usually it might do this. I decided to try to fix it. I turned it on and off several times, I twisted the nob a couple times, it still did not work. I tried playing with the sound cords on the back of it, nothing worked. I even switched them. Then I went to the electric cord under my computer, I wiggled it and it only made crumpled sounds as if someone was rubbing crumpled paper on a microphone. I tried going to Control panel, I even put the Volume thing in the Task bar. Control panel said everything was working fine. Nothing was on mute and nothing was broken. Not even the system sound will work now! What do I do!?! My dad couldn't even fix it and I can't play any of my favorite games without the sound!

Is this a laptop or netbook computer or a desktop computer ?

Did anyone else use the computer after you went upstairs to eat, before you came back to the computer ?

Did you try the speakers with a different computer ?

Did you try other speakers with this computer ?

Does the computer have more than one sound adapter ?
E.g. you have both an onboard sound adapter (built into the motherboard) and a sound card in a slot or a USB connected sound adapter ?
