I'll try to be brief, although there is a lot that you should know. First, I installed XP and it didnt work with my sound card. I couldnt get XP off of my computer so I loaded win98 directely back on top of XP(first mistake). Win98 didnt load properly, but I was able to format my hardrive from 98 unlike XP. So I now thought that XP and 98 were removed from my system (second mistake). Now I tried to get a clean install of 98 back on my computer thinking that my hardrive was clean but it would not let me because it said that I already had an OS loaded and it must first be removed. Here is were it all goes to hell. I did some Internet research and thought it best to use Fdisk to solve the problem (third mistake). So I deleted my primary partition(c:) and then recreated it(at least I think I did). Anyway, I am now at the point where I cant load an OS, I can't enter the BIOS setup, and I can't format my harddrive. If the computer loads without a boot-disk, well it doesnt load, it just sits there. If anyone could please help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

can you get back to fdisk in dos? if you can delete the primary and recreate it, then check to see that it is set (because the symptoms you describe remind me of a time when I had not set the primary) and if it is set then try (after rebooting) to format again and if it does'nt format this time then I don't have any clue. what boot disk are you using? I hope this helps :-)

does ur hard drive still working?
and what do you mean you can't enter bios??
when you boot up your computer, you see anything?
the best solution to your problem is to low-level format ur hard drive.
what kind the hard drive you have and what model i will try to get the utility for ya

Go here: http://www.samsungelectronics.com/hdd/support/downloads/utilities_03.html
Download the tiny program (11k) Clearhdd.exe; after, simply drag and drop it onto your WIN98 boot disk. Now reboot and at the prompt, choose START WITHOUT CDROM SUPPORT
After the disk loads the RAMDRV drivers, at the prompt type:
clearhdd.exe (hit return);
It will ask you twice if you are sure, hit Y two times, and your whole disk is nuked, FAT, NTFS, DOS, XP,WIN98, and any cats or dogs.
If you need help reformatting FAT32 just repost back.

Thank you to everyone who is willing to help. With regards to Paul, my primary partition is active. With regards to Ryan, my computer does come on. But without a boot disk it only begins to load. It checks the memory, it checks the PCI device listing and it checks the DMI pool data, but stops there. From that point on it just sits there. And if I use a boot disk and get to DOS, it still won't let me format the harddrive. Hope this helps. I use an AMD Athalon 1700. 512 RAM

Ranchhand, I really appreciate the help. Now you tell me that this program will completely wipe out my system. That is good and all but I don't have any experience setting it back up. Is this easy to do or will I be getting myself into more trouble than I am in. Also I have 512RAM so I use FAT32. Hope this helps.

yeah just use a the low-level format utillity, then use fdisk to make your partitions, after that XP should load fine.

Gavin, first you have to clean that mess off your harddisk before you can do anything. Use clearhdd, then post back and let me know if you want WIN98 or XP.
BTW, the actual command is:
clearhdd.exe 0, it will ask you twice if you really want to do this, hit Y two times and its done. Also, do this:
clearhdd.exe 1 and
clearhdd.exe 2 just to make sure there are no extra partitions hanging around. If there aren't, it will give you a notice to that effect.
If you need help reformatting/reinstalling, post back and we will walk through it. It's no big deal. Don't worry, everything will be fine.

Thank you to all that helped. All I needed was a low level format and then to reload windows. Once again, thank you to everyone who responded to this forum. It means so much to know that you all where willing to help. Ranchhand, thanks for sending me to the Samsung site to get the utility to format, it was great.

When I boot up my computer then a disk picture comes up that has an arrow pointing to "F1" when I insert the system boot disk and press F1 then it loads the drivers and stuff but when I try to make the computer boot to windows then it won't! I deleted my partion and ever since then then it won't boot!! I recreated my partition just the way that it used to be before I deleted the old one. Why does it act like I havn't made a partition? I've tryed deleting and reinstalling the partition several times but it still hasn't worked. Can anyone help me? Please?!
