Name: jackbomb
I'm experiencing something quite weird here. When I walk past my computer, it gives me a blue screen. This is really beginning to piss me off; I lost a couple hours of work yesterday just by getting up for a stretch!
I've asked different people, kids, adults, people of different height, to walk past my computer and nothing happens. It only BSODs when I walk past it. I feel like Mr. Bean!
The machine is overclocked, (AMD 4800 oc'ed to 3.04) but it'll do the same thing when I put it back to default settings.Whenever I don't walk past it, it is 100% stable; running games, work apps, etc for hours without crashing. But when I get up for a stretch, blue screen!
It gives me a MACHINE_CHECK_ERROR.
-Memtest86 says that my memory is fine.
-I jiggled all of internal and external cables to make sure nothing was loose.
-Prime95 runs error-free for 48 hours, even when overclocked to 3.04.
-PSU is an OCZ Powerstream 600w.When I put my case in a wooden cabinet, I can walk past it without causing problems. But gosh, I hate having to put my nice-looking case in a wooden cabinet as it kinda defeats the purpose of buying an uber-cool case, lol.
I'm just very curious here...Why is the computer reacting to my walking past it? And why only me? yeah yeah, long post.

You may have too much static and dry air... have you tried running a humidifier in the room where the computer is in?
Also, try disconnecting the cables going from the front USB ports on the case to the motherboard, as I have seen defective USB ports being super sensitive to static charge.

the_nextbear2>I have shut off my truck got out touched the door at night and actually seen blue sparks from my hand to the door.jackbomb alias static man.At least we make our own electricity. This may be the way the nickname "Sparky" came to be.Try sitting the computer on a small rubber mat.

I have the same problem, not with my computer though.
It's with radios and TV's also light bulbs.
Do you remember the old touchscreens that just fit round the frame of the screen, (not an overlay like the newer ones).
I managed to get a blue spark between my finger and the monitor from static, it killed the touchscreen system.
If this causing a problem with your computer, my advice is ground yourself as much as possible, by touching something metal.

just set the computer on a rubber mat or something like that it is just static electricity
by the way, that is a very cool system you have rigged up there jack i compliment you on that
life is like a box of stale and moldy chocolates

Computer stores have a ground that people use to protect the mo when working on their computer. Why not just ground out the system? And "why only me" Is there a rug and do you tend to shuffle up to your computer? Don't see why putting it in a wooden cabinet should make any difference. Most curious.

But shouldn't the case sheild the internal components from static electricity?
I'm not even that close to the thing when it fails--maybe around 4-5 feet.

If you suspect static, try these experiments. In each case try to reproduce the BSOD:
1. Change your shoes or footwear. Usually static charges are built up by friction between the footwear and the carpeting. Ground yourself on a plumbing fixture, then walk to your computer.
2. Run a wire from the system ground (any screw at the PSU will do) to a point 6 feet away. Then as you approach your computer ground yourself with the wire before you step closer to your computer.
Post back your results.
Some possible causes of static buildup:
Use of a carpet protector mat.
Low himidity
Footwear (as mentioned)
Carpeting, especially nylon and polyester.I dont know why your PC is so sensitive to a static field. Perhaps someone else can answer that. To keep your case looking cool, you could try lining the inside surface of the case with foil with the foil grounded to the PSU.

Ah..yes, street1. A wonderful device to keep out telepathic miscreants! But see this for improved thinking! :)
