no power and the power supply light is very dim..... sounds like a static popping sound when i first plug it up... the light flashes quickly from bright green to dim?????
Likely something in the power supply has failed. Would strongly recommend (due to the "popping sound") that you leave it unplugged and have a technician take a look (unless you're comfortable diagnosing/replacing it yourself). "Channeling the spirit of jboy..."
thank you... i looked it up on HP website and followed all the steps even unpluged the components in the diagram and still no change in the light... i didnt see any burnt wires or anything that looked out of place... but then again i never looked inside a computer before...
The power supply itself probably needs replaced, hopefully it is a standard power supply and not proprietary. You can sometimes smell a burnt power supply, sometimes it looks no different than a good one. My concern is sometimes a popping sometimes shorts out the mainboard as the power supply fails. Hoping that's not the case, power supplies are cheap enough, but I tend to agree with T-R-A, you may wish to have a technician check out the power supply etc, if that is all that is wrong it should not be an expensive repair.
