Specs: Windows XP
Hello, I am having a problem with my CD-ROM drive, its a cd burner and a dvd reader. I am running windows xp SP 3. My CD-ROM will only read audio cds nothing else. I tried to install a game and nothing pops up, i tried to install windows 2007 office ultimate and nothing. At first i thought maybe it was the disk drive so i got another one and its doing the exact same thing. I checked to see if the drivers were updated and they are. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Have you tried browsing the CDs and running the setup program? It may just be that autorun is disabled.

Just to understand, you replaced your original CD/DVD drive with a new unit?

well once i noticed that the drive that the computer came with was only reading audio cds i tried to put another drive in it. The new drive did the same thing as well. so i put the old one back in thinking maybe there was something else that could be done!

The term CD-rom is often misused. CD-rom is a drive that only reads CD media. I prefer the term optical drive, which encompasses all the genre.

Did this condition happen all of a sudden or gradually?

If all of a sudden, did you add or remove any burning software or scanner hardware or software?
