Try a different DVD drive. If that reads DVDs okay, it's your NEC unit that's faulty, not a Windows problem.
This is one of those problems where the only thing to do is to try a different device of the same type. It's the only way to find out if it's the device that's broken.

A while ago I had a CD/DVD drive which could read CDs fine, but stumbled with DVDs. I ended up with buying a new unit.

For what is worth, you might want to try cleaning the inside with a can of compressed air. If you find out that the drive is the problem, and cleaning it does nothing, then buy a new unit.

Google is your friend

Have a GREAT day!

Hi Memed,

try cleaning it. Here in the UK, a kit is available in cheapo shops for about £1.
The ones with liquid are best.

Please advise back on progress.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Today by coincidence I tried a DVD+ ....
It worked....
Later, just to be sure I tried the DVD- ones, opened the window though it was empty!
I tried another DVD+ that one also worked....
What are your opinions for this???
