i have windows vista basic home and i am trying to install a program but my cd drive won't read it. I don't think it even tries to read whats on the CD. Pls help

what type of cd is it?
Is it a burnt cd or a manufactured cd?

Is your CD Drive connected to the motherboard? Replace the CD Drive with another one if you think your CD-ROM Drive is causing you problems. Try reading a CD by booting a Windows CD outside Windows. If it works, then there's something wrong with your operating system, like a driver is corrupted. Does your CD drive not read the one from which you want to install a program or does it not read any CD ? A music CD, for example ? Regards

How new is your computer? If you have mostly SATA drives and you add a IDE drive then you are going to have to change the settings in the bios to let the system know that it is not SATA Things you don't want to hear your Network Administrator say:
