Hi Phil
Thanks for your reply, but you are dealing with a computer idiot here!!! What do I have to do to reinstall the printer driver?

Hi Whirler,

does the error sign (on the printer?) give any clue(s) as to what the error is?

I would not expect a driver problem after renewing cartridges, although it is always worth a try.

Are there any error messages on the laptop when it tries to print?

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Morning Mike

The sign flagged up on the laptop just says 'Printer is in error state' and IJ status monitor, but nothing to say what the error is!

There is also a symbol showing a question mark in a yellow circle and the manual says this indicates that a warning (operator call error) has occurred or the printer is working.

Any ideas Mike?

Hi Ray,

are the new cartridges you just fitted both *OFFICIAL* Canon replacements?

Also, were the old ones *OFFICIAL* Canon ones?

G'day Mike

Both the old and new replacements were compatible cartridges, not official Canon ones, but I have used these before and not had this problem.

Hi Ray,

printers are cheap for what they are. Thus makers subsequently try to tie users into purchasing their 'official' consumables, which are expensive compared to oem versions.

The makers being aware of this, design in methods of detecting, then blocking oem ones from functioning correctly. A computer world saying is, 'The higher the wall you build, the longer the ladder someone will make'.

I wonder if this is the case, and if so, are the latest cartridges from a different oem to the previous ones..

I note you can (scan and) copy ok, but this is strictly a local function.
Would stress these are thoughts on your problem.

Another is to check you print queue, as there may be many documents queued which I would delete, before trying again.

As a matter of interest, where are you based? I am in West London.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
