hi everyone,
My samsung x05 laptop has stopped playing all sounds completely.
the last 2 things i did was try to play this .ram file using quicktime from a website (where i chose open file as opposed to save to disk), but i didnt download some additional file needed to play it so it didnt work.
SOmething else i did was that i found a cable that i thought was a cable which attached a music playing device like my mp3 sony phone to my laptop to play music on my phone to my laptop. Unfortunately one side of the cable fit into my phone perfectly but i failed to notice that the other side which i tried to i plug into my laptop was not a complete fit and was actually slightly smaller.
could this have shorted out my sound device?
My laptop has been playing music perfectly well for all 2.5 years of its life through its own stereo speakers, and i checked to see if it mute was on, or the volume was up. I tried everything troublshoot suggested (windows xp home) and even reinstalled my driver but no sound plays. On testing my device the mic worked, and it showed that the audio playback of the mic was detected on the computer even though i couldnt hear anything.
Is it possible that i shorted my speakers by plugging my phone to it.. or damaged by using the wrong plug (even though it was a smaller plug that hung loosely in the hole)
I cant figure out what has gone wrong and i have tried everything possible to fix it.
the one thing i was not able to try was the system restore because my computer kept on freezing up when it tried that.
I would appreciate any input or help anyone can give. I cannot afford a new computer as i am a peniless student and my warranty has already expired.
thankyou in advance.

Hi, I know you mentioned raising the volume, but did you just raise the volume on the icon at the bottom right or did you double click it and go into the volume control panel? It seems simple, but perhaps the mute all is on, or that volume is down.
Just a thoughtRay

no, ive tried every advance sound function there is to turn on the sound already downloading the new driver at the samsung site wont work either.but thankyou for the suggestions.

My laptop lost it's sound after I took it apart to fix the ac connector and when I put everything back together, no sound. All I did was remove the audio driver and when it re installed it, it worked fine.
