Comment:

I purchased a used Mustek III EP flatbed scanner. I hooked it up and then tried to install from the original disk. Going through settings, install new hardware, then choose "have own disk." I insert the disk and I keep getting a message that says, "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware." When I insert the disk, it tries to auto install but fails. Any help?

Thanks

hi

try the following:

start/ run / d:

presuming your cd rom is lettered d:

should open up the directory. in there should be an icon of usually setup but could be install.

double on that shuld let loose the install.

if it works its done

if not report back.

might open up a menu of drivers and software depending whats on the cd but setup/install icon should be in the first dir you see.

At Start Run the icon appears for install. When I click on, it starts to run and then closes automatically without doing anything. I did download the driver for the scanner and have it in a separate file. I can click on it and it appears to load but nothing comes from it. I don't have any icon for Mustek and it doesn't ask where I want it stored. Maybe this will help you understand where I am. Thanks for the help.

Further problems. When the autorun begins, I get a message, "Windows cannot read this drive." Then something about being sure it isn't a network drive. I've received this message before and don't know why? I have trouble loading any programs because of it. Maybe it is my root problem.

mmmm

First of all are you sure that the disk covers win98?? It should do but you never know!!

Plug the scanner in and dont try to install drivers. reboot and see if windows finds the scanner at win intro. It might install windows drivers or ask you for the disk. if disk is required insert it and see what happens if it says it cant find drivers open d: and search for the driver it asks. If this doesnt work then go to www.driversguide.com and see if your drivers there.
