Simple really,

All you need is a cable to connect your cassette players "PHONES" jack to PCs "LINE IN" jack.

And a program, I like Nero's Wave Editor, but you could use the Windows sound recorder or anything really.

I takes a bit of experimenting to get the volume levels just right, but it’s worth it!

Yes, Symbios is correct. Don't know what kind of sound set up you have, but in my case (Audigy 2 soundcard) I have a recorder built in to the software. It allows me to record as an MP3 and to select whatever compression I want.

The key to the whole thing is getting an external device to play through your computer. Once you accomplish that, its just a matter of recording that sound.

Good luck

Musicmatch made this real simple in version 7 which I still use. They even included the wire you need in the box. I don't know what they are doing now but you can probably find the shareware version of 7 online. It was capable of encoding mp3s. As far as I know it was the only free version to enable mp3 encoding. Good luck.
