|music files gone from external hd /dies|
i've revived myself from the shock of my circumstances just enough to type a (hopefully) sensiblely formed request for assistance/information.
after it sat for a spell in hibernation while i moped and took forever setting-up a S.O.B. of a work-desk, i hooked the Fantom Drive G-Force 500GB eSATA / USB 2.0 Hard Drive GF500EU external hd back up to the Dell Studio XPS, to the utter horror of discovering that my extensive treasured catalogue of music had gone 'bye-bye'.
the weird thing is; the folders and subfolders (band names, album titles) still seem to be intact, as far as i could tell upon cursory examination (i could only check so much before the blackness closed-in on me), but there are no contents inside ANY of them.
not a song.
of course, i can't use system restore, with it having been unplugged and no back-ups performed for so long. i use iTunes if that means anything, and i'm the only one who touches this desktop. i also use CCleaner and Your Uninstaller, Eset NOD32, and MalwareBytes - all up-to-date. i'm paranoid that a blasted Dell back-up of the pc system was performed over the music files while my back was turned, and then what?
now, the only thing keeping me from throwing myself off the nearest bridge, which just happens to be the Golden Gate Bridge, mind you, is the hope that a brilliant recovery program may be the cure (Get Data Back? Recover My Files? something that i won't cause MORE havoc by misusing?), and that there is someone out there who has had this happen to them, with a happy ending for themselves, and hence; for me.
oh, the irony of investing in equipment that could be quickly yanked away in case of fire, flood, home invasion, or, most likely, earthquake; and carried-aloft to safety, with my precious melodies (and grip on sanity) inside.
and then this.
please, community, youre my only hope!
(unless no-one here can answer me, that is)
with anticipatory regards,
