I just bought an athlon 2400+ to upgrade my a7v266-e motherboard yesterday and I now can't get power to my monitor, keyboard or optical mouse. There is power to my cd rom and burner and all fans and drives within the case. I traded in my other cpu so I have nothing else to test with. I have the version 1.07 motherboard that is upgradeable for the 2400+ and updated the bios to v.1011 like I was supposed to, (before switching cpu). I tried re-seating cpu, memory. Grounded myself properly. No foreign metal is touching the board. No beeps coming from system or anything.

I think my bios might still be set to 1400 for my old cpu. My manual, and the manual on the asus website only shows me how to set the cpu ratio to a maximum of 10.5x. If I want to achieve the 2Ghz, I need to set it to 13.5. Does anyone know how the dip switches should be set to get 13.5x on the A7V266-E? Or has anyone had this problem? Thanks

You want to reset bios when switching cpus. The motherboard should then autodetect the right multiplier and set you at 2.0ghz

If that doesn't work, while the dipswitch settings for your board only go to 10.5 they do appear to use the same equation you use when setting the multis with pin connections, which is

Multiplier = (6+sumofbits)/2

where sumofbits is the value of the 5 multiplier cpu pins which can be shorted either on or off by connecting two holes in the zif socket with a tiny strand of wire, which is surely what your dipswitches are doing within the circuit board underneath the socket.

For example, note that your dipswitch settings for a multi of 10 are

off, on, on, on, off,

which is binary 01110, or decimal 14, making the above equation (6+14)/2, which equals 10. So the dipswitch settings that should produce a multi of 15 are

off, off, off, on, on

which is binary 00011, or 24, which in the equation is (6+24)/2, which equals 15. So give off, off, off, on, on a try.

It might not work though since multis 12.5 and lower only use the first 4 bits and your fifth dipswitch is always off for multis 10.5 and below so who knows if it will really set the 5th bit high on the cpu when you turn it on. If not, it will produce a multi of 7 and you'll need to go back and get autodetection to work. This inability to address the 5th bit is the reason so many boards can only address the lower multipliers on tbreds.
