Comment: I have a jump drive i use all the time and i just installed the drivers for my cell phone ( its also a mass storage device ) and now the only place i can find the devices are in the device manager. they show up as insalled and working properly but i can't access them in "my computer" to add or remove files. Is this an irq prob or just user error? 2600 Barton @ 2.31g 11.5mult 200fsb & 6800gpu

Reply: (edit)They may have been assigned drive letters which are already in use. Right click My Computer, select Manage, and click Disk Management. They should be listed. Make sure they each have a unique drive letter. If not, you can right click on each and change the letter to one that is available.

Reply: (edit)When you're looking for them in My Computer, are they actually connected? Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Reply: (edit)I have been having the same problem since Saturday. I have been trying to install a Creative Muvo txfm mp3 player to my system and it shows up in device mgr as working fine but does not show up in My Computer so I cannot access it to put music files on it. Even Creative is stumped and they sent me to Emachines and Emachines is also stumped. The player installs on my 1998 Dell running Windows Me without any special software but will not install on my relatively new Emachines running Windows XP Home. Anyhow, sorry for barging into your post. I have scoured the help sites to find a solution and have tried everything including reinstalling Windows xp as per Emachines suggestion. P.S. I tried to assign a drive letter to the mp3 player thinking it was conflicting with my two other external drives (Maxtor hard drive and Iomega CDRW) but when I go to Disk Mgment, the mp3 player does not show up so I can't. If this is an IRQ issue, I sure would love to get simple details so I can give it a try too. http://heiscoming.freeservers.com http://rants.8m.com/

Reply: (edit)Hi Angelina, I think your problem is different. Try this: With your XP box fully booted, no hourglass and nothing churning, unplug the MP3 player, wait a few minutes and plug it back in. Any reaction? If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2

Reply: (edit)they are connected, and when i take out my phone i see the jump drive in my computer but then when i have both connected both will not show. I have not went to disk management and durring this trubleshooting i locked up my phone and may have to send it back. I just got it 2 weeks ago and did not realize how sensitive. they will replace it same day at cingular store, no cost. thaks for your info but it looks like user error or equipment malfunction, i keep it as user error, i'm an idiot for missing it. 2600 Barton @ 2.31g 11.5mult 200fsb & 6800gpu

Reply: (edit)my friend tells me to go into device manager and uninstall the usb devices while all of them are connected and let windows search for the new hardware and will reassign the irq to each, this is a temp fix because it goes back after disconnecting and shutting down. don't know a perm fix.... let me know if this helps it helped me until my phone (usb mas drive) wigged out. 2600 Barton @ 2.31g 11.5mult 200fsb & 6800gpu

Reply: (edit)Mechanix2Go,thanks for your reply. I gave it a shot but Windows still will not recognize this drive. Even when plugged into the USB port. Creative labs sent me to Microsoft today to download 2 fixes for Creative products. I thought may be that was gonna do it but NOOOO! Even the add new hardware wont acknowledge the device is connected. Yet, Device mgr reports the device is working fine but it wont show up in My Computer so I can't access it to add songs. What a pain.I've been at it for 11 days trying to install this dang thing. Anyhow thanks for your time. Angie http://rants.8m.comhttp://heiscoming.freeservers.com
