MSI start up problems

Specs: Windows Vista
here's the name.

MSI GX630-001US NoteBook AMD Athlon X2 QL-62(2.00GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA 4GB Memory 320GB HDD DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

The main problem I have with this laptop is that it will not start up when I first turn it on. I mean, there will be a sound of start up but the screen remains blank. I have to hard reset it before it the screen turns on. So I'm not sure if this is due to mishandling of the laptop by the mail carriers or something else.

"I have to hard reset it "

What does this mean what are you doing?

It sound like you are not turning your laptop off properly. If you just close the lid before it completely shuts down it will go into stand by mode. So when you open your computer later it is still on just in stand by. When you hit the power button it take a few minutes to load your last known configuration which makes it appear as if nothing is happening. Better yet when does wake from the stand by if registers the last thing you did which was a shut down and performs that.

How are you shutting your system off? Are you waiting until it completely shuts down before closing the lid? IF so do you want to change it so that it shuts down when closing the lid instead of going into stand by?

Oh by hard reset, I mean I'm just holding the power button until the computer turns off. I am waiting until the computer completely turns off, but the standby does sound kinda new to me. If it is on standby, how do I get the laptop out of standby mode?
