Subject: MSI K7 Pro - mobo bad?OS: Win XP ProCPU/Ram: 700mhz Slot A/256 PC100 |
Comment: I have an MSI K7 Pro (MS-6195) w/700mhz Athlon Slot A CPU that I've been playing with. It had been working fine, until I decided to remove it from one case & reinstall it in another. I was very careful when I pulled the board & made sure I was grounded. I reinstalled the board & all the exact same components (including PSU) into the other case, tried to fire it up...the CPU fan comes on & the D-LED lights up (all red) & that's all I get. No beeps & no display. I tried resetting the BIOS & that didn't help. I pulled all the cards & tried with just the CPU, one stick of RAM, & the video...same thing. I pulled the board & tried it on the bench...still the same. I tested the CPU in another Slot A board & it booted up fine...so that rules out a bad CPU. Any suggestions? Do you think I somehow fried the board?

Reply: (edit)I agree with the last answer, assuming, of course, that you are certain the PSU, RAM, battery, and video card/RAM are OK.... (I'd double check all these before throwing the mainboard away....good luck

Reply: (edit)Check your power unit. I had similar (expensive problem). Mobo went down, changed it and the processor, powered up and dead as dodo. Check power unit and it sending out high volts. Changes power unit, mobo and processor again and fine. I had two power unit failures lately, the latter fortunately didn't blow the board. john
