aaaaaaahhhhhhhh it's such a tough choice
MSI GeForce 4 Ti4400-VTD 128 MB and ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500 64 MB are both being offered for $389.95 Canadian at my local computer store. Here's the story: I'm getting a custom-built computer (P4 Northwood 2 Ghz and 512 MB DDR 333, if you care) but I can't choose a video card. I like to do video editing, and I'm an occasional gamer, so I would like a good gaming card, but I can't afford a top-of-the line card (I could if I also didn't need video in). So the requirements are:
Video-in with good capturing abilities (both have)
Video-out (both have)
Good gaming card (both are but the MSI GeForce looks to be better)Therefore, I had decided to go with the GeForce 4400, due to it's lead in the gaming part, plus all of its features, and that bundled software is nice. The only downside I read about was the noisy fan, but I could live with that.
Then, I read on tomshardware.com that the MSI 4400 had the worse picture sharpness of the GeForce 4s with quote, "unsharp, ghosted" images! What the hell is that for a upper-end card. So now, I'm not sure what to do. I don't want terrible image quality on my monitor!
I would like to hear from anyone that has this MSI card, I want to know if the picture really is unsharp with some ghosting. Because if the image quality on this card is in fact good, then it would be the perfect card for me!
....too bad though, having a TV tuner and a remote would be cool with the ATI, but....it's only 64 MB (the one i can afford), and the gaming benchmarks didn't fare nearly as well on tomshardware.com
Thank you

The main thing is not to be too strongly influenced by criticism. If possible try to see a computer with one of the cards installed for both types before you buy.
Just guessing I would say the card works better at some refresh rates than others and the criticism may be based on a poor setting. I am not familiar with either high end video card, so I can't suggest one.

ATI definitely is the leader for video capture, video out, and all that. But if gaming is more important then you'll probably have to get the GeForce or spring a little more money for a better ATI card.

Fo video capture, lmao, just analogue right?
I have set my system (1 gig 200mhzfsbAthlon, ATA100 7200rpm HDD, 512 PC133, Winnov Videum Video Conferencing card for tv input) for video capturing, and it runs ROCK SOLID. When I get my ATA133 drive, FINALLY, I will have a great setup for 352x288 or 320x240, but for video capture, it really doesn't matter what tv input card you get, any tv card will work, but to capture anything decent in real time, you need a RAID setup. I use virtualdub and it runs great, just hard drive cant really write fast enough (ATA100 7200rpm with IDETOOL, swap file turned OFF, and some other windwos setting turned off within virtualdub). Stiil skips maybe 1 frame every 90-200 or so at 352x288 900kbps. But fortunately, that doesn't matter, it is negligable. The quality is great and the sound is great too!

I just bought a MSI GeForce4 Ti4400 yesterday and I know a friend that has that Raedon, In my opinion I would go with the Geforce4, I LOVE MY CARD, not only is it nvidia (they always do a good job with updating drivers frequently), it has cut all my load time by at least a third (i went from a TNT2 M64) everything runs smooth, and that ghosting, i don't even know what he is talking about, i've played all the higher end games just to test it out and they all look beautiful. I would definitly suggest going with the geforce4. But thats my opinion.
