Comment:

I have an emachines 533id2 with 192mb Ram MSI cdrw MS8348A Dragonwriter and a Samsung sd608 DVDRom. I cannot burn a CDR with the year old MS 8348A. It will copy an image file and then fault at the 2-3% of the burn process. Usually immediately after the buffer reads at 100%. I am also having a smaller issue of not properly recognizing drive readiness of either CDrom. I will generally get multiple faults of drive not ready on either drive when attempting to view information in Windows explorer. After a few clickes it will finally come up and be readable. The Ms8348drive has the most up to date firmaware installed and read the proper drive type under system hardware. Any ideas what I might be able to do to get my computer functioning properly again?

Thanks,

Shawn

emachines have a very small unreliable power supply. it may be dying. you can get a replacement, but it is a microATX, not a standard ATX size. bad PSU cause a variety of strange problems.

you need to take it to a shop to check the PSU. A new microATX 300 Watt PSU might cost $100 installed, if you live in USA.

Some power supply sites will give an estimate of how many watts you need. I think your system came with a 140 watt PSU. If you added anything, you have exceeded the capacity.

sounds like you have a hardware problem, but do all the standard checks for malware just in case. adaware, spybot S&D. virus checks.
