I am currently upgrading the RAM on a MS-6280e ver 1.0 board and am a bit mystified as to what the brown bus connector is next to the PCI slots....anyone know ?

That's the AGP slot. Newer video cards will go in that type of slot.

That's if the slot is about the same size as a PCI slot. If it's a very small slot, it's probably the new slot that is used for some modems.
