MS wheeled optic mouse losing power

i have a microsoft wheeled optical mouse and its been working fine for about a year now then all of a sudden it just started to turn on and off then finnally shuts off completly i thought it was just dying on me but i got me a new one just like it and it does the same thing now i have an ibm optic mouse plug in the same usb slot and it seems to be working fine now but it usualy took some time before the other mouse starting to act up also after having this ibm mouse plug in for a little while i could plug my ms mouse in and it would be fine for about seven hours or so then same stuff now i didnt know if there was some kinda virus that could be doing this or not but my panda anti virus doesnt seem to find one or if i have a problem with my drivers but ive updated it and still same problem anyone have any suggestions please help
