Comment:

I have an MP3 player, no specific make apparently, 128MB capacity. I've been using it for over a year and it's worked well!

About a week ago, I put an MP3 on it then all of a sudden, i couldn't work the unit anymore!

I unplugged it from the PC and the screen gave me the message "unformat" i can scroll through the various functions such as sound recorder but each screen says "unformat". When trying to copy files to the MP3 player now, it tells me "cannot copy [track name]. directory or file cannot be created"

After lookin around the net, i cannot find a solution to the problem.

Obviosi i attempted to format the unit using both the tool that it came with (which said it was successful, apparently not) and by using MS DOS. MS DOS said that it had a "Bad Partition Table". I have tried many programs to try and correct and rebuild the partition table but all the programs are demos and wont save the new partition table.

So Question:

Does anyone know where i can get a free partition table rebuilder? Or know how to fix the MP3 player problem without doing that?

Thanx

Rob

Is this a mp3 player which appears as an external harddrive? as soon as you upgraded to XP, then you can format it in Disk Management

Intel P4 3.2E Ghz
Asus P4P800-E Deluxe
Kingston 2x512MB 400Mhz
Asus AX800 Pro
WD Caviar 160 GB
WD Raptor 37 GB
Creative SB Live! 5.1 Player
Sony DRU-700A
Asus DVD-E616P1

Yea, appears as a removeable disk.

XP's disk management? wouldn't that do the same thing as when windows asks "would you like to format this disk now?" and it does the format thing?

It has done that b4 but as soon as it has finished, it asks me again! :S

Will try to upgrade to XP agen to format it, see if it works (however, am havin problem connecting to the net after upgrading, see message 117742)

Thanx
