To record into Windows Movie Maker from a camcorder, where on the computer does the video cable plug into? Could it be the S/PDIF ("Opt-In 1") connector? if so, is it common for most computers to have only that type of connector for receiving camcorder or VCR cable connections?

Most PCs do not come with a video in connection. You probably need to purchase a PCI card that will connect with your camera. What type of card you need will depend on what type of connection your camera has. There's some info on connecting cameras here:
