Move Server Off RAID Card

Dell / Sc1420

My Dell SC1420 Server is slooooow. At this point I'm convinced that the problem is an add-in Dell (adaptec)Cerc Sata 6 controller card.

The motherboard has a Cerc 2 controller on board. The perfect scenario for me would be to pull the hard drives off the Cerc 6 card (set up as RAID 1), pop 'em onto the Cerc 2 "card" and power up. But it doesn't work that way, right?

So please tell me the fastest way to migrate from the Cerc 6 to the Cerc 2. Can I pull one of the drives off the Cerc 6 and build an array on the Cerc 2 without losing the data?

Another thought, is it possible to bring the Cerc 2 online and use Acronis True Image to image a drive on the Cerc 6 to a drive on the Cerc 2?

Any clever ideas that will save me the 12 hours + of having to backup the server and restore the backup to the drives on the new controller will be MUCH appreciated.

I'd consider ntbackup to move, 12 hours??

I'd use perfmon to see what is going on before I did anything.

The only issue with an image is you may have to fix it with drivers or boot order or such. Many people love images. I am still kind of fond of ntbackup.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
