CPU/Ram: XP 2200
Comment:

Just built a new pc with an msi k7n2g. Windows XP, XP 2200, 256 DDR333.

Problem is every other reboot or cold start the mouse and keyboard stop responding. Like clockwork, every other start or reboot. Event viewer shows i8042prt errors regarding keyboard and mouse. Not a prob with the OS. Cannot even enter SETUP before OS loads. Must reboot, then all works fine--until next reboot. Obviously something's wrong here with the keyboard controller (?). I do not want to RMA this board for this. I can use a USB mouse and keyboard and don't have this problem. Anyone have any suggestions? Flashed the BIOS to solve a different prob (wildly inaccurate cpu temp reporting), didn't solve this problem though. Saw nothing relevant in BIOS.

Update your multimedia keyboard driver to the latest version.

That can't be the problem. Keyboard/mouse stops responding before OS or any driver even loads. Have narrowed it down to the mouse port because when I remove the mouse the keyboard has no problem with lockups. This behaves like a strange resource conflict.
