This maybe a simple question to all you experts out there but i havent got a clue what the problem is.

My brother has just bought a computer, only problem is the mouse pointer doesnt work when you move the mouse, the drivers are there and the computer says its there in the control panel, and device manager, but like i said the mouse pointer doesnt move.
has anyone got any ideas as to what it mite be? and how to fix it.

i have tried a completely different mouse on the computer but had the same problem.

Windows XP Home
Pentium 4 3.0ghz
768MB PC3200
120gb Hard Drive
ATI Radeon 9200 Series

Is it a PS2 or a USB mouse? Have you checked and verified that in the BIOS/CMOS the PS2 and/or the USB are enabled / automatic. I would start there.

Good Luck.

For others reading this post:
It's a bad idea to unplug/plug PS2 mice with power on!!! You can damage your motherboard.
