I have trouble using my usb mouse after
repairing windows xp.whenever i start windows, it will detect a
new hardware called "winbond hid cir
receiver" then windows will try to install
it, but it says fatal error during
installation and that leaves me unable to
use any usb mouse, i even tried other mouse
and it's not working. does anyone know how
to fix this? thanks in advance..

How did you repair WinXP?
Look in device manager and see if you have USB port installed and working correctly. If not, you may need to install motherboard chipset drivers.

I repaired it using the WinXP cd, just like
when you try to reformat the hardisk, but i
chose to repair windows, which is to
reinstall windows XP without reformatting the
hardrive.. I repaired it because i need to
restore some changed system files.and uh, i think i need to google about
chipset drivers.. thanks for your info.. i'm
gonna see whether that is what causing the
problems because the usb port is correctly
installed..

That meesage appears to be for a wireless KBoard/mouse. Do you have that hardware?
If so, WinXP may not have a driver available for that hardware. Get it from the manufacturer.

nope.. i'm using a normal usb optical mouse..
it works fine until it happened, when it
suddenly not recognized by windows. In device manager, in the Human Interface
Device root, there is only one unknown device
with an exclamation mark, i uninstalled it to
let windows reinstall on the next startup,
and it did tried to install, but it says a
fatal error occured.. I did that for several
times and still end up with the same results.I also tried to install it with the driver that comes with the Driver CD of acer..and i recently upgraded my winxp to service
pack 3 then i uninstalled it back to service
pack 2, does this have anything to do with
it?

Boot into the BIOS settings and look for unused integrated hardware. Disable anything you don't intend to use. Sounds like it may be an infrared device. Good practice to disable things you don't intend to use. Parallel & serial ports for instance.
At any rate, you need to install MBoard drivers for the chipset and probably for sound, LAN, etc.

Where can I get Mboard driver for my
chipsets? what are they? Why do i need to
install for LAN and sound? I dont have
problem in there, only my mouse is not
working..

Your laptop appears to have originally come with Vista pre-installed. Is that correct? If so, you can't perform a repair installation by using a WinXP disk.
Did you downgrade to XP?

nope, when i bought it, it's installed only
with dos, and the shop owner installed xp for
me.. it's been working very fine.. i've
formatted my laptop, installed winxp, worked
fine, the mouse is restored, then last night,
the mouse gone dead once again.. hmmmm...

A search for that model showed the unit came with Vista originally. Did you buy the laptop used? If I am correct then the issue may be that WinXP drivers for some hardware do not exist.
Obviously the computer didn't come from the factory with DOS on it.
